When someone dies

Whether your loved one was living in our parish at the time of death or has close links to the parish or St John’s we hope that we will be able to assist you in both the initial, practical details of planning a funeral but also in providing on-going support. We work closely with all the local funeral directors and are used to dealing with the issues which you will be facing at this difficult time.

The Church of England website provides a wealth of information. But please do get in touch here or call Revd Helen Hancock on 01252 574521 if you would like assistance; either to talk through the options, perhaps to see if St John’s is available for a service or for other help.

Neither you nor the deceased need to be regular churchgoers to organise a church funeral for someone so please don’t hesitate to be in touch so we can discuss the possibilities.

We are committed to providing you with ongoing pastoral care after a funeral and for as long as you need it.  This may involve some home visits or other help.

On the first Sunday in November each year, we also hold a Service of Remembering and Thanking. We invite the families of those whose funerals we have conducted during the past three years and the names of those who have died in the previous year are read out.  Many people find this a helpful and fitting way to remember again those they have loved and lost both formally in a quiet service of remembrance and informally over refreshments. You should receive an invitation to this service but if you don't, please do check the website for further details. This service is open to all -not just to those who wish to remember a recent loss.
