First of all…. CONGRATULATIONS! We hope that, at St John’s, we will be able to support you in your wedding plans and in a lifelong and fulfilling marriage together.
Whether you are wondering about getting married in St John’s or need your Wedding Banns read - we are here to help.
The Church of England provides a good link to ‘all you need to help you plan a personal, meaningful, spiritual and beautiful church wedding‘ on their weddings web site at www.yourchurchwedding.org. But for a rather more personal introduction to what getting married at St John’s might mean for you both, please get in touch here and we will contact you as soon as we can.
Publishing Banns of Marriage
If you are getting married in a Church of England Church elsewhere by way of the Publication of Banns and you live in our parish you will need us to read your Banns. Banns have to be read on three consecutive Sundays within three months before your wedding day so it is important to get the timing right. The statutory fee for reading your Banns (and the certificate which will need to be given to the church at which you are going to be married) is currently £51. This usually increases a little each January but we will let you know what the new fee is, if it has increased.
Couples often like to come along to hear their Banns being read (at least once) and we’ll be delighted to welcome you to our 9.45am service. We normally read Banns on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays of the month and as part of that we also pray for you as a couple and for your wedding day and your married life together.
To check that you live in the parish please take a look at ‘A Church Near You’. If you are in the parish then please get in touch here.
